Well-being assessment tool to recognise how your students feel

By using Thought Score, your students give you anonymous feedback about their current well-being. Their insights will inform how you can implement wellness improvements and reinforce well-being practices used in your school.

supportive learning environment

Well-being is a fundamental component of the school experience

With Thought Score you give your students a way to periodically communicate the emotional highs and lows they may experience.

Address student needs

More and more children are coming to school with big concerns on their shoulders. Kids are often hesitant to tell adults how they feel because they are afraid that the adult will over-react, would not be able to help them or not listen to them. As part of a coping mechanism, children often hide their feelings and will internalise trauma. So, how can we really know what is going on in their minds from the outside in?

Based on our I AM HOPE ambassador school tour feedback, we know kids want to be proactive in their own mental health development. That's why, with Thought Score, we take the approach of asking them directly how they feel on a social and emotional level.

Thought Score provides a means for all children to periodically open up, reassured by anonymity, they reveal concerns without fear of reprisal.

Help students reach their potential

Schools that adopt Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in their curriculum give their students a strong foundation to thrive both personally and academically. When students improve upon their self-awareness, interpersonal and emotion regulation skills, they're better able to learn and contribute to a thriving social environment at school.

By developing well-being programs and mental health education in schools, we help students to be aware of their own mental state, recognise their feelings, and potentially address early signs of mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

Thought Score enables teachers to gauge the emotional well-being of whole student segments, and the entire school. This allows the school to allocate supportive resources and efforts better, and observe the effect events and decisions have in near real-time.

Student Mobile App

The Thought Score application for students can be downloaded from the Play Store (Android devices) and the App Store (iOS devices). Alternatively, it's can be done online (for Chromebook, PC or Mac) without the need to download.

Parent or guardian consent

Schools are supplied with participation consent slips to distribute to students. Students take these slips home, and obtain parental or guardian permission. The consent slips describe the objectives of the programme, the benefits to students and the school, and the specifics regarding privacy and guaranteed anonymity.

Upon return of a signed consent slip, the school may issue the student with the Thought Score student card, which contains the unique code that the student will use to launch the app.

Anonymous code

Once installed, students are required to enter a valid code from one of the cards we supply to the school. Codes are tied to the school, so that the responses given by the student are collated with all other responses for the school. The codes can only be used once, but should be retained by students for the possibility of redeeming a spot prize, should the code they used be drawn in the I AM HOPE prize draw (details to be confirmed).

Questionnaire Scoring

Students answer 27 multiple-choice questions based on the Ministries of Health and Education questionnaire, which ranks responses on three scales:
- How students see themselves
- How they think others view them
- The state of their family relationships

Students with a positive sense of self, who feel valued, and have healthy relationships score high across the three domains. Conversely, students with a poor sense of self, feel undervalued, and/or have fractured relationships, will score low across the three domains.

All student responses are anonymised.

The only data collected will be age, gender, ethnicity, and year group. Students are given a computer generated number known only to them.

Insights Dashboard

Thought Score will not only give schools a better understanding of mental health and emotional wellbeing of their student body, but it will also provide insight on the effectiveness of established practices to promote positive mental health. Over time, the benchmarks and trends observable within Thought Score will provide schools with avenues to proactively maintain students' wellbeing and address mental health concerns. Students become more self-aware, thoughtful, and willing to discuss their emotional requirements.

Teachers view insights by logging in to the Thought Score web-based application. It’s here where the responses are aggregated and can be further analysed.

The wellness measurements are charted so that observable patterns and trends are more apparent. For deeper analysis, the wellness measurements can be segmented by reported ethnicity, gender, age, and year group. As the rollout to more schools continues, it will become possible to compare the schools against comparable EQI's and regional averages.
