The I Am Hope Foundation (" we ", " us " and " our ") is committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. If you have any questions or concerns about this privacy policy (" Policy ") or our practices regarding your information, please contact us at thoughtscore@iamhope.org.nz.

This Policy describes how we might use your information if you:

  • Attend a school that is participating in our Thought Score programme;
  • Have obtained consent from a parent or legal guardian should you be under 18 years of age; and
  • Download and use our mobile application – Thought Score

In this Policy, if we refer to:

" App, " we are referring to any application of ours that references or links to this Policy, including that listed above.

" Services, " we are referring to our App, and other related services, including any support or promotion.

The purpose of this Policy is to explain to you in the clearest way possible what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to it. If there are any terms in this Policy that you do not agree with, please discontinue use of our Services immediately. By using the App, you agree to the privacy practices described by this Policy.

We DO NOT collect, hold, or use Sensitive Personally Identifiable Information (" Sensitive PPI ") data to identity an individual student.

We DO collect, hold, and use Non-Sensitive Personally Identifiable Information (" Non Sensitive PPI ") data that does not directly identify an individual student, it allows the well-being of an aggregate student body to be measured, so that school administrators may facilitate improvement of education, school, and student policy.

We only use information in the agreed manner in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and as per all mandated Child Protection Policies of the New Zealand Children’s Act 2014.

1. What information do we collect?

In Short: We collect information that you provide to us.

We collect information that you voluntarily provide to us when you express an interest in obtaining information about us or our Services, when you participate in activities on the App and provide non-sensitive PPI data that cannot be used alone to determine an individual’s identity, or otherwise if you choose to contact us.

The information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the App, the choices you make and the products and features you use. The information we collect may include the following Non-Sensitive PPI data through your use of the App:

  • the name of the school you go to;
  • your age in years;
  • what school year you are in;
  • your ethnicity;
  • your gender; and
  • your responses to the questions in the questionnaire contained in the App.

All information that you provide to us must be, and shall be considered by us, true and accurate.

2. How we use your information?

In Short: We process your information for purposes based on legitimate interests to improve youth mental health, in compliance with our legal obligations, and/or your consent.

We indicate the specific processing grounds we rely on next to each purpose listed below. We use the information we collect or receive:

  • To help App users improve their emotional literacy. We may use information provided to help you to better understand your emotional connection to yourself and with others;
  • To aid educators with policy setting. We may use information provided to develop an understanding of the general well-being of students in different schools, age groups, genders, ethnicities, and parts of New Zealand. Information collated is aggregated and anonymised, and never includes sensitive PPI that identifies you; and
  • For other business purposes. We may use Non-Personally Identifiable Information (" Non-PPI ") data for other business purposes, such as data analysis, identifying usage trends, determining the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns and to evaluate and improve our App, products, marketing, and user experience.

3. Will your information be shared with anyone?

In Short: We only share information with your consent, to comply with laws, to provide you with Services, to protect your rights, or to fulfil business obligations.

If we disclose any information, it is anonymised, so you cannot be identified. We will not sell your information to third parties. We will only use or disclose information that we hold based on the following:

  • Consent: We may process your data if you have given us specific consent to use your personal information for a specific purpose;
  • Legitimate Interests: We may process your information for the purposes for which we collected it (and legitimate related purposes which would reasonably be expected by you);
  • Legal Obligations: We may disclose your information where we are legally required to do so to comply with applicable law, governmental requests, a judicial proceeding, or legal process, such as in response to a court order; or
  • Vital Interests: We may disclose your information where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or act regarding potential violations of our policies, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person and illegal activities, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

4. How long do we keep your information?

In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this Policy unless otherwise required by law.

We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements). When we have no ongoing legitimate need to process your information, we will delete such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.

5. How do we keep your information safe?

In Short: We aim to protect your information through a robust system of organisational and technical security measures.

We take reasonable measures to protect information that is held by us from unauthorised access, use, disclosure, and alteration. We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security, and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your information, transmission of information to and from our App is at your own risk.

6. Do we make updates to this Policy?

In Short: Yes, we will update this Policy as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.

We may update this Policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated "Revised" date and the updated version will be effective as soon as it is accessible. If we make material changes to this Policy, we may notify you by prominently posting a notice within the App of such changes. We encourage you to review this Policy frequently to be informed of how we are protecting your information.
